Looking for "craft" password

Since we have a System/75 R1V3N, Avaya has dropped support for our box as of 12/31/01. They don't want to give me the craft password. Avaya doesn't think that we should have it, BUT they don't support the switch anymore so who would supply it ? Does anybody have the December 2001 password.
 
Had you posted last month, you could have had Avaya turn on full maintenance permissions on the cust login. Maybe they still will? This will actually give you all of the same access as craft which was really only meant for Avaya techs. Option 2, upgrade.

Do you know what level, (login) I would need to change passwords & permissions ?
 
It's not an issue of what login (cust, craft, etc.). It depends on the permission levels you have with the particular login you are using. Cust can be configured to do everything any other login can do with the exception of init to turn on software RTU. Cust can have the optioning and permission levels required to establish logins, permission levels, passwords etc.. Try "add login stum". If it lets you add it, see what options you can give it. Just the fact that you're asking implies you weren't setup with very high permission/maintenance levels before the support ended. It's worth a try.

You could also try a 'disp perm cust' to see what permissions you have. If it comes up with 'cannot display' you'll know you're SOL, if it displays you're looking for as many 'y' entries as possible.
 
I can 'display permissions cust'.. and the only thing that isn't "checked" is permissions.
and it won't let me change the 'check' on permissions.
I can NOT 'display permissions craft'.
So is it true that I can do everything but change "permissions" / passwords in the system ???

 
If under 'maintenance commands' everything is set to 'y' you should be able to do more than you will ever need. As for permissions set to 'n' that just means you cannot create additional logins. If you still want to run another test to be sure, type 'busy' and then hit the help key. If you see things like link, etc. you have the maintenance permissions you need to function effectively.

To have "full permissions", except the right to turn on software do a "display system customer". It will display the software thet has activated on your system. Look for the fields that say "Station and Trunk MSP", "DS1 MSP", and "Processor and System MSP". If these are set to yes yuou have full permissions, the same as an Avaya Technician, on you system. If they are set to no they can be activated with the following exceptions.

1. You must have a current maintenance contract.
2. It will cost you $ 60.00 for Station and Trunks.
3. It will cost you $ 60.00 for Processor and System.

Avaya tells me the charge is to cover the time for a Maintenance Technician to login and add the rights.

Also, the only logins that can add other logins are defined as Customer, and Super-User.

clausen - R1V3N doesn't have "customer" or "Super-User" . I can't have a "current maintenance contract" because they dropped support for my system December 31,2001. I'll try calling avaya again and see if I can get to a manager that "knows something".

 
Sorry StuM, I neglected to look at your current switch version. The login you would want to use is "cust". The default password was "custpw". It looks like the default password has long since been changed. I will look into having the "cust" password reset. If the Avaya Inads group will still reset the password, I'll check on Monday to see of they will, I think they charge you $ 120.00 for the reset. Avaya is getting much more aggresive on switch support for older versions. I just checked with the TSO group and they told me only the Inads people would be capable of telling me if the password reset is still avaliable for your switch. I'll let you know what I find out on Monday.

My "cust" and "rcust" passwords have been reset to what we want. The main thing that really bugs me is the way that Avaya is handling all this. They don't wnat to support the switch anymore. (Alot of their current techs don't know R1V3n) But they don't want to give me the ability to control my system permissioning.
Did you ever see the letter they use to send out, telling you about the "Current" security of your switch ? The letter would explain that their system had checked the "remote access" on your system and report password problems. They must have change what time of day they did it to my switch, because it started reporting that we didn't have "remote access" turned on. They were wrong, I just didn't have it activated during the daytime. When I tried to call them and explain that they were providing misleading information.... They didn't know what I was talking about. I use to be able to get a system card switched out the same day if it was bad. For the last year I'm lucky if it happened it 3 days, unless I got very vocal about it. In my opinion, Avaya has lost the capital "C" in customer service. But then again alot of companies have down graded their customer service.
 
The key here isn't 'down graded' it's outsourced. It is my opinion Avaya no longer wishes to be in the business of physically supporting any of their systems. They are sourcing it out to any Larry, Moe or Curly with a telephone service company near enough PBXs for it to be profitable.

My Intuity was hard down for over 72 hours just recently, I called them and stated the problem clearly, told them what parts I needed and they still dispatched a tech who had never seen an Intuity before to make the same phone call and (after I told him what parts I needed) he ordered the parts. Another tech then came back, who was a little more skilled and watched me rebuild the system.

Makes me seriously question the money spent on "maintenance" but I can't drop it because of the environment in which I work so I'm pricing the competition with pretty decent results and I suggest you do likewise.
