I have been asked to produce reports of the times users connect to our novell 4.11 server, how long they connect for each time and use this for the basis of a monthly "user connect time" report. Eg, ideally I would end up with soemthing thus:-

User Trev
Logon 9:00
Logoff 10:00
Time 1 hr
Logon 12:00
Logoff 14:00
Time 2 hr
Total connect time monthly 3hr

Etc.

Anyone got any ideas how I could do this utilising default Netware 4.11 features or offer a recommendation as to an add on product?

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried the netware accounting feature?

Start NetWare Administrator.
Select the Server object you want to set up accounting for.
From the "Object" menu, Choose "Details."
from the bottom of the dialog box, choose "Accounting."
To confirm that you want to install accounting on this server, choose "Yes."

it will probably give you the info your'e looking for.

That was my initial thought. The problem I have is how to take the inforamtion and compile it into a report as the accounting feature is more to do with controlling access to resources rather than reporting usage. I knwo in Newtare 3.x this could be done via the paudit utility but this no longer seems to be supported in Netware 4. Any ideas on how I could compile the information on how users where using their credits?

I have two options.

1) You could download the new paudit for netware 4 and load it into your server. but the only problem is that it works in bindery mode. it may not recognize your tree.

2) There is a software that a colleague swears by called "auditlogin". you could download the evaluation copy and see if it works for you or not.

check the product menu

tell me if this helped or not.
