J169 ethernet port stops working all of a sudden. Reboot fixes the issue. Any thoughts on why?

We've had this issue at a customer site for the last three years. It went mostly unnoticed because most users have laptops and they auto-connect to their wifi connection. The phone stay up and is working but no ethernet. We tried changing the data cable and also connecting to another laptop and it will only work after a reboot.
 
I'd look at the access switches they are plugged into, assume you are using voice and data VLANs on the switch.

If Cisco and they are using 802.1x voice VLAN on the switch it can go into the shut-down state if the re-authentication fails. It may be that the J169 is not handling the re-authentication properly or correctly
 
Have you tried updating the J169 software?
