This must be done on the server hosting the SQL Server instance.
Using Enterprise Manager, right click on the instance.
Select Properties.
On the General Tab, click on Network Configuration.
In that window, go to General tab.
In the right pane, you should see TCP/IP, highlight that.
Click Properties.
You can change the Port there.
Make sure you change it on all client connections (ODBC).
