Can anyone provide some information regarding the resiliance of IPSI - Media Servers connections in an ESS environment.

Do the IPSI cards maintain connections with both servers in the active pair, or with just the active server in the active pair?

What would be the effect of a loss of network connection for the active server, a seemless failover to the backup server in that pair?

Do PKT-INT alarms indicate a loss of connectivity with just the active server or the pair of active servers?

How long do the IPSI's wait before moving onto the ESS servers (and possibily ESS2 servers)?

Background - Our G650 servers are separated from our S8720's by a WAN and I need to troubleshoot some PKT-INT alarms, if all my IPSI's display PKT-INT alarms for less than one minute, could this have been a problem with the connectivty of the active server or is more likely a routing issue.

The IPSI communicate with the active server. If you have 8720s and the remote PN looses connectivity with the active 8720 the 8720s may do an interchange and see if the other server in that pair can see the IPSIs. If the remote PNs cant see the second 8720 they may go into ESS mode assuming there are ESS servers at that remote site. IPSIs are not very tolerent to loosing connectivity to the active server. We have seen our remote PNs register with the ESS servers on site in just a few seconds(3-5 seconds) several times due to simple network re-convergence actions. To get those remote PNs back onto the main servers you need to do a get forces takeover. This weekness forces people to use CNA adaptive path control. Many data guys don't like the idea of CNA adaptive path control.
