On the resale market are there going to be tight license restrictions for the IPO. If so what releases and what restrictions might there be or are already in place.

For example if someone sells their IPO and the buyer wants to add or change something will that be possible. Must they only go through a dealer? How about the resale market for the 400 series and the older 500 series that I see all over the web and all over eBay already.

Looking forward what does it look like AVAYA will be doing with restrictions or control of older or resold systems? What should buyers be beware of, any pitfalls or license expiration?

Thanks

If you are putting the feelers out to see if you should start buying and installing from Ebay, I wouldn't. There is nothing to stop you doing so and licences can be obtained easily enough, but Avaya are starting to put stuff behind SSO and changing the licencing structure as we speak, so just do it officially and you will be good to go :)

What is SSO and the licencing structure? Not sure what that means.

Buying Avaya HW from Ebay, that's risky.
(you don't know if it's stolen goods, counterfeits or how it was treated)

Selling refurbished as new, that's illegal.
(and customer settling for the cheapest -> Not to keen on paying maintenance contract -> your business will die quickly)

Not sure how a supplier would react to the scenario of providing licenses in combo with second hand equipment.
Leasing contract would be out of the question, that's for sure.

This is how Avaya labels their packaging, you get the picture...

There is a huge resale market for IPO and Nortel on eBay and on other sites that have warranties. Some of these sites are legitimate companies that resale and do repairs.

There's nothing wrong with refubing handsets/equipment and selling them on, but if Avaya know/get wind you as a BP are installing recon kit bought from such sites you will not last long as a BP I think. Unless of course you aren't a BP and just install what people ask for and buy it cheap then come here for advice/training... :)

There's a huge resale market on cocaine too, dosn't make it legal though.

A warranty from Avaya is the only valid warranty I know of.
Used car companies hands out warranties too, mostly worthless.

But why don't you call Avaya and ask them what refurbishing company they recommend?

And a SSO you get when you are properly registered with Avaya:)

Kind regards

Gunnar

Reusing and re installing previously working equipment really is the responsible and green thing to do instead of letting it rot in some landfill and pollute the environment wouldn't you agree

If that's what you want to do, do it and good luck to you. Plenty of folks do and make a living doing so. But it's more of an easy money/commitment free way to do things rather than getting Avaya authorised, let's not pretend your motivations are saving the planet :)

Recycling is the green way to go, 97,5% of our junk gets recycled (don't know how it is where you live, though).

Those few returned phones, I use for testing, demo or giveaway's. Wouldn't dream of selling stuff I don't know the full history of.

But, it's your choice, do what you feel is best for the environment[smile]

Kind regards

To be honest, I don't see the problem buying/installing used equipment.

If we compare it with the automotive market then would you buy a second hand car like a BMW by the official dealer or from your neighbour who has the same car with the same mileage for a far better price?
I know what I would do. "Hey neighbour, fancy a beer? That car of you is way too expensive I would buy it for xxxx because it has some scratches" etc...

- Used equipment sold as new is a problem.
- Counterfeit is a problem.
- Stolen goods is a problem.
All of the above are well represented on the Ebay market.

Buying used equipment and selling as used, not a problem.
...and I prefer to buy a car from a certified official dealer, cost less in the long run:)

Kind regards

Hey, we as a company sell reconditioned kit (different side of the business), there is nothing wrong with doing so, but only to trade customers :)

It is but if you ask questions then expect answers.
Answers can contain stuff you do not want to hear too :)
No is also an answer.
Selling refurbished is OK as long is it sold as refurbished and not as new what really happens a lot.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

What do you tell a customer who is just starting up and has limited capital to spend of new expensive equipment or a customer who desperately needs to replace an old ailing system but does not have the money for a new one. The answer is a preowned system.

Not everyone is going to want new equipment. There is room for everyone in the market. Some people do not want to b a BP because of the restrictions and monthly quotas. Some people do not like that business model.

If that was a question, I tell them to:
a) sign a lease agreement, if their credit report is ok, they get it.
b) get a bank guarantee.
c) come back when you have the money.

Have a nice day[smile]

Kind regards

Gunnar

I tell them good luck and i want to help them but no warranty on the equipment.
Business is business in the end but it must make money in the end.

I would never put a customer in that position. I would never leave them in place that could destroy their business, I am not that selfish or that greedy and desperate for money. I will help them any way I can even refer them to another local vendor if that will help them. That type of good business in the community builds a good solid business reputation.

That is a good point.
We rarely do not do a job.
But when it costs money just because of buying second hand and not willing to pay the hour rate to install it then we do not do it.
