We have an IPO 406 4.2 With a VCM 8 installed. We have 6 Avaya IP phones on the system, 5610, 5602 and 5620SW. I am always able to make and receive calls, and can always hear the other person, but they cannot always hear me. It seems to effect all the phones at the same time. Is this a bad VCM? I don't understand why it only effects traffic one way and isn't consistent, also doesn't seem to be related to traffic volume because it happens when there is no traffic as well as during peak. When it's not working it sounds completely dead at the far end and is not even able to send dtmf tones.

Internal and external calls, external via PRI, internal voip to digital 6400. Can't confirm as of yet, but I don't believe voip to voip is affected.

in that case it sounds like a VCM issue, internal and external use VCM resources if you make IP to non-IP calls and so the only real common thing is the VCM, or the network but most people don't like to hear that.
Trying to get a VCM for the old 406 might be almost as expensive as getting an IP500 these days.
You could always try to replace the processor and test with a new VCM32 if you have the resources to do so that is.

That's what I was leaning to was the VCM, I just wanted to see if anybody else has had a similar problem.

4vayaMan, that is not a fix but it will indicated if there is a network issue.
So it is a good thing to try!

honey, i fried the IP Office !!!

Sarcasm, it's only one of the services I offer.

I already had unchecked the direct media path as I read that is a problem for one way communication, but it should only relate to IP to IP traffic. And besides when I checked there were 2 new ext. that had it checked still and they were affected the same as the rest, only part of the time. Now we initially thought it was a VPN issue because these are on a remote site, but now... Well the first phone we set up we entered in the routers the static IP of just that phone and forwarded the ports, well, now all the phones work without ports forwarded, and only that phone seems to be the problem. Watching the network, all the phones open 2 ports, except that one phone that opens 8 locally and 6 at the IPO??? Also All the phones work until a call is placed from that one phone, then none transmit sound until that one phone is removed from the network? So that phone is the problem right, but even when they aren't transmitting, they work fine IP to IP phone, so VCM is the problem????
