I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on cost effective and reliable routers to use to setup an SCN. Also do I need to setup a VPN over the PSTN to allow the two IP offices to comuunicate with each other? Thanx!
cost effective routers are routers that always work
otherwise you have to make expensive calls
so i say cisco
seting up a vpn is needed
but are you going to do it on an analog line with 56K ???
then it won't work
you need an strong connection with QOS (quality of service)

I have a 5MB DSL on one side and a 10MB Cable connection on the other. I was looking at a couple on SonicWall TZ-190's. Have you heard of anyone using these devices in a setup like this?
I didn't but there are some people who used sonicwall
But without QOS you can have problems like echo jitter etc etc
realy pay attention to it

I've done them with Sonicwall over a VPN.
You can do some QOS, outbound of course - which means that if someone else is sending a large amount of data you can ensure the VOIP gets the bandwidth it needs (at the egress of the router).
Once it hits the 'net, it's fair game and QOS is gone.
Just know that you have a cheap link between sites and it's not always going to be 100%. VPNs are fine MOST of the time. Maybe 90% or so...
You could always use the IP Offices them selves to create a VPN Tunnel. I must say we have some very very good results with this solution.
You will need an RFA for this feature, but I think its definatly worth it.
