IP Office 9 Vocemail Pro backup Woes

I'm at my wits end. I've scoured the forums and followed the (poorly written) documentation but I cannot get this voicemail backup thing to work. The servers just won't sync up.

I have two (2) IP Offices in the same subnet. Both are Preferred Edition with 24 ports of VMail.
I have two VMPros in the same subnet.
I Have SCN configured and working.
I have the Primary Server set as Voicemail Pro/Lite with the backup Server's IP address.
When connected to the backup vm server with the client it says "Backup" at the top of the bar.
IIS was loaded BEFORE VMPro on both servers.
SMTP is configured according to the docs. Yet ... not sync traffic appears to be flowing.
I've done everything short of standing on one leg and swinging a dead chicken over my head while reciting Edgar Allen Poe ... and that may be next.

... any ideas?

Ummmm ... never mind. It suddenly started working. I'd post an explanation if I know what it was ... maybe the dead chicken wasn't such a bad idea
