This is my first thread and I am totally an outsider in Avaya (I am a CCNP).

We have a client that needs our help with a pretty ancient configuration they have which involves one Avaya IP Office 500 Version 5.0 (26), one Windows based Fax server running Windows Server 2008 R2 (!!!) with TE-Systems XCapi demo running 2 CAPI channels for a GFI FaxMaker.

I would suggest they just throw all that off the window and get Cisco gear as replacement, but, they have another bunch of ancient systems there (an Oracle Database (!!!), an IBM AS400 (!!!), and so on, so forth), and they want to keep it all, probably for sentimental value :)

So, we followed this guide here, but weren't able to get a successful connection so far.

I was wondering if anyone had a successful experience configuring that setup and would kindly share some thoughts as we are kind of lost with this.

I saw this thread: thread940-1740542 when googling information on this topic and that is the reason I created this account in order to find someone that had previous experiences setting up something as this. The thread is from 2014, so, pretty much, past century, but I still hope there is someone out there that can help us out with that configuration.

Thanks is advance for any help.

fax servers are usually not the issue to configure as they are just analog extensions.
Not familiar with this specific product but this is how I configured 95% of all fax servers.

Call come into a DID and get sent to a group that has 2 (or more) analog users in it that are the actual fax ports. That will get all incoming faxes to the fax server.

Another way is that several users have DID's and they use them also as personal fax number and the fax server forwards them then to their email.
That is also done via a group and the ports for tha faxes are set to DTMFF which sends the target extension as DTMF tones to the fax server and the fax server then knows who is who.

If you can ask more specific questions on what is working and what you need help with it is easier to help.

First question : did it ever worked?
Second question : if it did what has been changed to make it stop working.
First note : there is nothing worng with old harware/software, not all people/SMB's are so fortunate to buy new equipment every year and for sure that accounts for the expensive Cisco stuff...

We use that combination pretty much. IPO with XCAPI and GFI Faxmaker. Either connected through H323 (Server Edition or SCN) or SIP (any other system).

SIP is easy and cheap, H323 is not that cheap if you have to buy the IPO license but is easier.

What exactly is your problem?
