Hallo all,
I have been following the discussions on the upgrade of the 406 untis to 4.x. there seems some discussion if the minumum PCS level is 7 or 8. I have 4 units and would like your opinion if they are upgradeable or not. I have also check the free memory thru the Monitor tool.

Unit 1
PCS Levl 10
FREEMEM=46760828(29)

Unit2
PCS level 7
FREEMEM=47870256(17)

Unit3
PCS Level 10
FREEMEM=40640596(505)

Unit4
PCS Level ? (we don't know yet)
FREEMEM=47224960(44)

You can upgrade them

Ps you did a good search :)

The 406 with 16 MB memory would not have 47******** but 10******* or so

Avaya say that it needs to be pcs8 and higher but they started to put in 64MB in the pcs 7 models
So there are pcs 7 with 16MB and with 64MB

Nothing earlier than PCS level 08 can be upgraded to 4.0.x or 4.1.x.

I have just found the following text in the Avaya technical buletin # 80.

<IP406v2
Some early IP406v2 systems (typically pre PCS08) have not got enough memory to enable them to run IP Office 4.0 software. If your IP406v2 system does not have enough memory there is a process in place to enable you to upgrade the system free of charge.
This process will be covered under a Product Correction Notice (PCN) that will be issued separately from this Technical Bulletin. Please see the section below detailing how to identify the amount of memory that your system has.>

Identifying the amount of memory in the IP406v2
Early 406v2 units only have 16Mb of memory, later units have 64Mb. Although it is possible to check the PCS version of a 406v2 system by looking at the printed label on the unit there are some pre PCS08 systems in the field that do have 64Mb of memory.
The best way to check the memory is to run the System Monitor application, this means it is possible to check this remotely. You will need to make sure that the “Resource Status Print” option on the System tab is enabled to be able to check the memory. When you connect to the system you will see a similar entry in the System Monitor output as shown below:
RES: Fri 3/2/2007 13:43:29 FreeMem=43346748(16) CMMsg=6 (6) Buff=100 520 500 520 1 Links=4194
If you look at the "FreeMem" value you will be able to tell what memory configuration your IP406v2 unit has. In the example above there is 43Mb free, so this is a 64Mb system. If you have a 16Mb system this value will be below 10 Mb.
If you do attempt to upgrade a system that does not meet the minimum requirements the Upgrade Wizard will show the following error.

So it seems PCS level is not relevant, but just memory. In any case Avaya apparantly will exchange the unit for free.

I am not attacking you but that is bull

I did upgrade 3x a 406v2 with pcs7 !!!!!

It is all about the memory
Avaya say it should be pcs to be save !

PCS is only a guide as many have already said. As long as memory matches required spec go go go for launch. Other wise get the unit advanced swapped.

ACA - IP Telephony
CCENT - Cisco ICND1
CCNA - Working towards.

@djuplift:

Zwets has the ideal example:
Unit2
PCS level 7
FREEMEM=47870256(17)

So even PCS 7 IP406V2 units may have the required 64Mb of memory and will be upgradable to 4.0+
