It has been recommended to us that we should upgrade to 4.1.9 from 4.0.6. Is this an easy process? Can a novice do this? We do not have a support company so this is on my shoulders so any help prior to me doing this would be helpful. Also, is there a general downloads section of the Avaya site for IP Office 4.x? I am struggling to use there support site.

Kind regards

Kev

Search here, there must be a PDF about this

or go here, look for the bulletin on each release, instructions included. I would recommend getting in touch with a authorized Avaya BP and have them do it, at least the first time (you will have plenty of other opportunities as updates come out about 4 times a year)

Who recommended this and for what reason???

4.0(6) isn't a GA release

Fooball is not a matter of life and death-It is far more important!!!!

The fact that you are considering doing the upgrade yourself sinply because someone suggested to you that you should personaly do this tells me that you are not qualified to decide if it is something that should be done.

If you have all of your systems workling perfectly with no issues, and are ready to upgrade all of your systems in short order, as well as all Avaya application on all of your systems, including user applications, VMPRO, and all others, as well as the troubleshooting the certain variable issues this will cause then I would suggest that you begin reading the hundreds of pages of PDF's involved in preparing to do so, then set aside a full day to upgrade each site with a second day to troubleshoot the completed upgrades. It may take longer if you have many user applications. After you stufy the PDF's I would also suggest that you take the IPO implement roadmap courses at Avaya University prior to attempting this.

On second thought, maybe you should hire an experienced tech to do it.

Don't do to 4.1 yet, its fairly new and as yet a bit suspect, just like most versions of 4.0.
Download the version 4.0(14) and upgrade to that, its quite simple, install the new admin apps and then go to advanced >upgrade.
It will find your system and you can upgrade it, it will go off during this process.
If you bugger it up, then you're gonna need a tech in there.

Just hope the green light in the middle of the unit stays green, if it goes red and stays red, you've had it. Slip out of the toilet window.

Why do you think that 4.0.14 is better then 4.1.9 ?

If the unit has a red light then trow it in to my bin please :)

Just get a DTE cable an restore the thing

4.1 is a lot better as 4.0!
I can reccomend to anyone to upgrade to 4.1.9 or wait for the next maint release next week and then upgrade.

I believe this is an SCN multi-site system, so consider that guys. Also, do not allow this guy to think that it is simply upgrading the IPO modules firmware, and then walk away that is the easy, and smaller part of the project. He could be looking at 300+ phone managers to upgrade, VMPRO, DELTA, CCC, ETC., ETC., ETC., as well as finding, and either upgrading, or uninstalling every other version of IPO manager on the entire SCN networks so no one tries to use the older versions as some can cause issues.

It would be reasonable to expect a novice to take three days to complete this type of project, and that is if they do not have any issues, or make any mistakes, and that is if this is a single site not an SCN multi-site.
