I have two seperate 500v2's that are having quality issues (naturally with 100+ IP Phones) and the IT staff at both these locations are saying that the IPO and the Voicemail computer are not 100MB Full Duplex. I manually changed the Voicemail computer from auto negotiate to full duplex and they stopped seeing errors with that machine, as for the IPO there is no such option. Im told that the IPO is 100MB full duplex by default but I am having my doubts after two seperate incidents.

I think you can set this with the DTE but i am not sure.
All ipo's are full duplex except for the 412 but i have seen enough strange things so i will not be surprised when it is not full duplex :)

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

tlpeter many a star would come your way if you posted a link on how to do that.

Connect with a serial cable to the ipo

use these settings:

38400
8
N
1

Then type:

AT
at-debug

Type help to see a list.
I believe there is an option to chaneg the lan settings but i am not sure and i never tried.

wow. Okay so I figured out the switchport command, but am afraid I messed somethig up.

I did "switchport" then it asks for 0-9
it wasn't until I did "9" that lan port 1 started to change
The next option was auto-negotiate 0-1
then 100MB 0-1
then Full duplex 0-1

no matter what combination I did auto-negotiate never changed until I did all 0's for the last 3 things. But then it became

10Mb half duplex (fixed) I assumed at this point that 0 is off/no and 1 is on/yes but when I did 0, 1, 1 for the last three it would still come up as 100MB Full (negotiated) but the lan port is permanently messed up unless I set it back to 10mb half duplex because it will just blink really fast for 2 seconds and then stop for 2 seconds and repeat itself. Maybe somebody has some insight on this?

It's a bit late but never mess with undocumented settings unless you are willing to risk knacking the kit. You will need to consult Avaya on this but I'm not sure how sympathetic they will be.

On some switches leaving the Avaya auto and pinning the switchport to 100 Full causes "flapping" where the ports negotiate down to 10 Half briefly then back up, some need to be set at both Auto to stop this, others leaving both Auto causes the same thing, so it's trial and error with each one but leave the Avaya stuff as is :)

I verry much doubt that the quality issues are due to the lan settings on the IPO (but check the codec you are using g711 is best but requires more bandwidth)
it is far more likly a network config error
do the customers switches support dif-serv? is it correctly configured?
also are the pghones on a seperate Vlan?

quality issues on VoIP are invariably dues to poor data network.

I do not Have A.D.D. im just easily, Hey look a Squirrel!

I already said that i never tried :)
Maybe a complete reset will help?

A reboot fixed things. There is a crapload of stuff that you can change in there. Glad I played with this. Thanks again tlpeter

So a reboot sets it back to default?

Well, I think I set it back to all 1's and when I rebooted it, it either took effect or went back to default, not sure havn't played with it since.
