Well I guess someone had to run into these Issues.

Tried to do a turnup this evening with the following Config

IP500 Control Unit
-DS8 Mod + ATM4 Daughter
-Legacy Carrier w/PRI T1
-RFA for Professional Edition
2 x IP500 DS30 V2 Modules
Software version 4.0.5.

FYI System was actually configured to replace clients Existing IP406V1 which was goig back on lease. Also replacing all their 4424's with 5420's. IP406V2 is/was running 2.1 SW.

Client has a PRI T1 from InfoHighway and it was working fine while connected to the 406V1.

We fully praommaged and configured the IP500 in advance with all users, extenstion, new voicemail PC, etc. Everythig new. Everythign was tested fine, except for obviosuly plugging in the outside lines.

As soon as we put the PRI T1 into the Jack, the system goes bonkers. It looses connection to both DS30's and Monitor shows a contunous stream of strange errors, PCM, URQ, etc. Not sure what these mean.

Tried the following.
Moved Legacy carier with T1 Card ot Diff Slot
Different T1 Card
Different Legacy Carrier
Removing DS8 Mod from IP 500
Erasing to Default Config
Turning on/off CSU on the T1
Removing existing External CSU
Private Build (Reelased to Fix Pahntom User Fwd Issue).

This is the strangest issue I have seen. The onyl thing i have not done yet is replace the IP500 Contorl Unit. I tried to but another brand new Ip500 unit which i had in stock wont even power up. So goes for better quality control.

Please Note that the IP500 is FINE until the T1 Line is actually is hooked up to system.

Any ideas?

Superikey, are you aware that a brand new IP500 out of the box does not contain operational software and will not boot up, you need to upgrade it to the GA version of 4 before you will be able to do anything? You also HAVE to have a feature key even though you have no lics or again it wont fire up.

These two reasons may explain why your brand new'y wouldnt work when you tried to replace it.

Yes I am aware of both these points. The problem with the new IP500 I tried putting in is there was no power at all. So I guess its dead.

Reagrding the Issue with the T1 and the IP500 going bonkers when we hook it up. Any Thoughts?

Thanks.

I would have to scheudle this to be after hours to get that data again. But as I recall, it shows a contunous stream of strange errors, PCM, URQ, etc.

Also There are inbox erros.

I also noticed while this happens, ping times for the LAN IP of the unit go WAY up, form like <10ms to 300-600ms. Its as if the unit is eing overwhelemed and by watching the Monitor this apers to be the case.

Also note that with the DS8 Card taken out of Module Slot1, We still have the issue where te DS30's go offline as soon as we hookup the T1, but I dont get the Funny and Continous errors in Monitor.

i believe you can only put them in slot 3 and 4
i will search if this is right

I have had experience of a strange issue with the first IP500 that went in that i knew about. Not exactly the same but in the same ballpark.

I am english so i know nothing about T1 really so excuse me if i am shooting wide of the mark.

Basically we had an IP500 that went bonkers and it was down to the fact that the engineer had set the QSIG card to be the primary network clocking source and as this was a QSIG link to a RAS server there was no clock on this circuit so to speak. Basically clocking to something that either has no clock on it or a dodgy clocking source did cause this sytem to go absolutely crazy.

It lost expansion modules, all handsets in these modules showed as please wait.

We set the QSIG card to unsuitable and set one of the PRI circuits to be network and it then started working fine.

What happens if you set you clock quality to unsuitable for all circuits? Is it any more stable?

legacy card was in slot 4 at first, then moved to slot 2. same issue either way.

Is there an external CSU on this PRI circuit? If not, is there any chance that this is an old style T1, and the CO is delivering sealing current, and it's affecting the system? Yes, this is a far out guess, I know.

HarrisD1200

There is an external CSU DSU And I tried both with and without it. Same Issue either way. Also tries turning CSU mode on/off on the Avaya.

I do have CRC Checking on.

Take the system down to just the control unit, no expansions, no daughter boards, nothing. Put the trunk card back in, connect it and fire up. Add one piece of hardware at a time until you have an issue.

Platnium Guy,

I only have 1 T1 in the system. I here your point about the clocking issue. The T1 is set to Network for Clock. Dont I have to have it set to Network since its the only T1?

Ideally yes.

There were some issues on earlier versions with not being able to send faxes over pri due to clocking issues. We were advising people to set the clock to unsuitable and hey presto, faxes worked ok now.

You do really need to set your clock quality as network, however as a temporary test you can set it to fallback.

The circuit will still work and you may find that the system starts working normally.

If this is the case then you need to look towards the clock provided by the network doing something weird to the IP500.

All FYI,

Setting the clock source on our single PRI to unsuitable prevneted the issue from occuring.

But then replacing the IP500 Control unit and setting the clock source to Network worked, so in conclusion we had a bad Control unit.
