Hi.
I have MSDN subscription and am trying to install Visual Studio.NET using the CDs.
I insert CD 1 and am told that I need to update components (step 1). I am prompted to insert the disk labeled "Windows Component UPdate disk for Visual Studio.NET". I insert a disc labeled "Windows Component Update for Visual Studio.NET" and my CD-ROM cannot even read this disc -- I get an error "incorrect function".

Do any of you have *any* idea what is going on here? The discs are all March 2002 (I don't have later, subscription expired -- though MS tells me that license is still good).

I would like to get around this by directly installing the components that I need -- since the VS.NET installation disk seems to be working OK -- but I can't find anywhere on microsoft.com which components/versions are required!

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. -Brad

Hmmm...have you tried to get to the contents on teh disk by using Explorer, and just getting to the setup from there?

Jack, other people get the same error on their computers -- ditto for the .NET Framework SDK CD. Is anyone else able to open in Explorer the March 2002 Windows Component Update CD (not DVD)?

Heh, have you contacting MS about maybe just replacing the disks?! Sounds like if everyone is having the same issue, the disk is faulty somehow.

Does anyone know where I can get a list of component versions that I need before installing VS.NET?

Thanks. -Brad

I would go with Jack's suggestion of getting a replacement. It sounds like a bad copy since I can read the Component CD fine.

Don't know where you could find that list. That'l do donkey, that'l do

Hi, just wondering if you were ever able to get this issue resolved?

I'm trying to install the VS.NET 2003 upgrade, and I'm getting the same error message, except, I didn't get any kind of Windows Component CD with the install package...??

I tried searching online for it, but I can't seem to find any answers.
