I am trying to add a 2nd Harddrive to my W2k Pro system and after windows start, I get the blue screen stating: inaccessable_boot_device. I know the harddrive and all the cabling is good. I can access the harddrive if I start the PC with the W98 recovery disk. And I formatted it but Win 2k will not run with this drive.

Please help

If you switch the position of the drives on the hard drive controller, does that prevent the blue screen, especially if the other drive is bootable?

Have you checked the boot order in your BIOS settings?

Maybe it's looking for a floppy or cdrom

Now that I come to think of it, it seems that you might have a Windows 98 boot record on that drive. The hard drive format needs to include a Windows 2000 boot record.

Also, the post about boot order intrigues me. Is the PC being booted from the original first drive or the new second drive?
