Hello everyone,

Does anybody know what for IP Office is using ICMP protocol? On my firewall I can see that IP Office is sending ICMP packets to the remote terminals and by default they will be blocked by firewall. Can it be for a delay measurement?

Thanks,

Oleg

The Pings are used as a Keep Alive mechanishm so the IP Office can verify if the terminals are up or down, i believe after 3 keep alives are missed via ICMP then the remote terminal will be annouced as down.

The IP Phone also send ICMP request to the Media Gateway, ,same thing for the IP Phones, when there is a conversation from IP phone to IP phone, the phones among them selves send out ICMP request to make sure they are still up and active.
