I am presently using win98se and win xp pro. I am still using 98se much more than xp pro and I havent moved my oe files from 98 to xp yet.
First, can someone give me info on how to move them to xp, which files to move, and where they are located.
Second, is there a way to convert email messages to text files in a bulk way, as opposed to cutting and pasting each separate message or file into a text file? I have a lot of email messages that could all go in one text file as they are related.
thanks for your help.

Hi,

In Oe, go to File -> Import and Export -> export your messages and then save it to a file on your hard drive (or remotely if the machines are networked), then do the same for contacts.
Copy these files across to the new machine if needed, then import them into the new oe setup.

Go into outlook express on the old box and go down to tools ->accounts and note down the details, then replicate them on the new machine. The new machine may well have some others already there which aren't used - so delete them.

thanks jrbarnett

Does anyone want to add anything to this before i get started?

I just remembered another question I have for jrbarnett. When i do the export does it actually move my files or copy my files? I would like to keep the files in 98se in case i should fail in my attempt to get them into win xp pro, and i should have noted that in my first post?

Hi,

The export leaves them intact. You take the files that the export facility generates and use them to import on the other machine.
The old setup will retain the data as it was beforehand. Obviously however, if it gets updated, the two get out of sync and it becomes a nightmare to get them back together.

Thanks Jrbarnett!

Anyone else before this one closes, or rather, goes down the list?

It's straightforward, garebo. Shouldn't cause you any problems -- just make a note of where the export is saved and the filename in question. OE has been known to hide stuff in some strange places.

okay, thanks very much!
