I was having excessive IRQ sharing issues, so I reconfigured my system and disabled ACPI and set it to Standard PC under Device Manager.

Everything seemed just dandy as I reinstalled drivers and went through a couple of restarts, but now my system won't shut down. It will 'restart' just fine, but when I select 'shut down' I end up getting the "You may now safely...[bang your head against the wall]" instead of just powering down as it used to do. On top of that, the power button only works if I hold it down for a soft-off. What the hell did I do?

Second part of this question: I'm now showing 2 "Standard PC" listings in my Device Manager. Little confused by that...

Check BIOS for power button behavior settings...may have gotten reset to act as standby (suspend)button

If you disabled ACPI that stops the automatic shutdown. Now you need to physically shut the machine off.

Ahhh. Well, I can live with the manual shutdown thing. Thx for the input guys.

What about the "Standard PC" double listing in the Device Manager? I doubt it's supposed to be showing up twice...
