Here is a new one for me. A client of mine can get e-mail, ping websites, ftp through the browser etc, but cannot get on surf the Internet. I have disabled AV, the firewall, etc.etc. and still nothing. Any ideas of what it can be? We have done sypware check, checked for viruses, disabled any uneeded startup items etc. Help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I would think so. It ftps through the browser to like ftp://ftp.site4sure.com, and it gets e-mail just fine but no web.

Did not work. She just called me. Any other suggestions.

Hey,

Yeah we have tried other browsers, and same thing. It just says connecting xxx.xxx.xxx.xx and then to page not found. E-mail works, IM works, ftp works, but not http:

I am not really sure this will work, but give this a shot:

windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm

This does quite a bit of stuff and may fix your problem.

Let us know.

What kind of internet connection is she on? Is the PC connected directly to the internet or going through a router? What OS is she running? Can you release/renew the IP address ok? Any clues from events that led up to this?

She is on DSL. She shares with several other people in the office. They do not have any troubles. IP renews just fine, she cant even get to the router at either using Firefox or IE. Windows XP Pro

Can the others get to the router?

Have you tried switching ports on the router or a new lan cable?

Nope. FTP works fine, email, IM etc. Even remotely accessing our other network in Denver, works through Windows Explorer.

Do they use proxy?
