I have a HP DL 360 server with an internal smart array 5i controller. I've installed redhat enterprise linux ES 2.1 on that controller/discs (kernel 2.4.9.e12)

After installing the OS I bought a disccabinett smart array 30 with a smart array 642 raid controller.
I installed everything and configured my raid 5 during POST.

the internal controller uses moduls cciss and I believe mkdev.cciss has been run at some point since I have a lot of controllers under /dev/cciss.

When I try to partition my drives using fdisk /dev/cciss/c1d0 (second controller, whole disk???)
I get this message.

can't open /dev/cciss/c1d0

I can run fdisk /dev/cciss/c0d0 to configure my internal raid-controller without any problems.

What do I have to do to configure my other controller?

Is there a command to run redhat setup fromo within the OS?

Try the next steps :
1.Add the line :
options {scsi_mod} max_scsi_luns=255
to the Server's /etc/modules.conf file.
2. Remake your initrd file by -
mkinitrd -f /boot/initrd* *
(* stand for the current kernel version of the server.)

BTW - It is *Strongly* recommended to backup the current /boot/initrd* file BEFORE remaking it.
Shay.

Managed to fix it after some troubleshooting.
Seems like my kernel didn't have support for this controller.
installed 2.4.24 and now we're talking.

Nostradamus. I'm curious, which bootloader are you using? This is unrelated to your issue, but I have a similar set-up. I want to switch from LILO to GRUB, but I can't get GRUB to recognize my scsi disks.

Thanks
