HP 820 nozzle clean problem

I have an old HP Deskjet 820cxi installed on a server running Windows 2000 Advanced Server. All works fine except for the nozzle cleaning utility. When I click on the 'clean print cartridges' button in the service menu tab, the printer chunters for a bit, feeds paper and prints the first part of the test page and stops. The printer then hangs and the only way to clear it is by removing the power.
The align heads function works ok as does normal printing, only nozzle clean is a problem. Driver reinstalled and checked with HP site.
Any ideas folks??

There may be a problem with the service station.
Open top cover, and unplug unit. Slide the carriage over, and look into the service station. There may be a build-up of ink preventing motion. This is a rotation mechanism, and may just be going bad {finally!} Good little printer, tho', you may just have to manually clean the cartridges.
Put a little iso-alcohol on a soft paper towel, and slide the cartridge straight down a few times lightly.

Thanks Michael, I have checked service station with printer cover removed and it rotates fine. The problem seems to happen after the first bit of the cleaning test page has printed, not during the actual head cleaning. It prints the grid and the diagonal line of the test page and then stops dead with all three lights flashing.
This only happens during the clean utility, normal printing is ok.
