How to tell if your USB is 2.0 or 1.1? 2

Aside from any performance benchmarks, and aside from having any identifying labels or markings on the physical card or port itself, how would one know if it's USB 2.0?

I've looked in Device Manager (this is an XP Pro system), and it shows a lot of USB stuff--
Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host controller
Standard OpenHCD USB Controller
USB Mass Storage Device
USB Root Hub
...etc, etc, some of the above are repeated a few times as well.

I've checked all the tabs in the Properties of each of the above and there is *nothing* that identifies the USB version of either the device I have plugged in or the actual USB port itself.

So without anything to really test the actual transfer speed, (the memory card in the one storage device was clocked at less than 1 MB/sec.-- 1/10th of even USB 1.1, so that's no help) how could I verify what my PC's motherboard USB ports are?

The word "Enhanced" is the give-away. That tells you that you have USB 2.0

Excellent information! Thanks very much,

Yes you definately have USB2 with the "enhanced" bit in the device manager but if you want to see it written in black and white, just do a google on your motherboard make and model where you will find plenty of reviews and specs for your hardware.

A related quick question. I have an older but perfectly OK notebook PC with USB 1 ports. Every time I plug in my USB 2.0 memory stick the computer comes up with a little message that "this device could work faster if plugged into a USB 2 port". I have no doubt that it could but there are no USB 2.0 ports on the notebook and it works just fine as it is. How can I stop getting the message every time I plug in?
