I have a G650 that needs to be reconfigured for use on a different location/subnet/PN.

What steps do I need to take to configure this machine ?

I have one with IPSI,CLAN,MEDPRO and a number of analogue phone cards and one with CLAN and MEDPRO and a number of digital phone cards....
Dunno if it makes any difference, though.....

The G650 itself doesn't get IP'd... at least I don't think; However the IPSI, CLAN and MEDPRO's all do. Let someone just confirm what I'm saying. As far as I know the GW itself is just a dumb chassis w/no config. The one thing I do see in my node name tables are entries that say Virtual_PNx -- with an IP.. not sure where that is used.

On te back of the G650 in the upper right-hanbd corner you have to define which cabinet it is (A-E). Assuming this is being added to an existing Port Network, in addition to the G650 chassis, you will need a TDM Bus cable.

If this will be a new Port Network, the IPSI, MedPro, & C-LAN boards will all have to have IP addresses defined.

What CM version number are you....See below for some guidance however to provide a step by step guide is not something I am prepared to do you really need to be using a Avaya qualified tech through a BP.

The G650 is a dumb chassis it is the cards inside the gateway that do all the work.

The ipsi is the interface that talks to the CM and the gateway will not work without also on 5.2.1 and below there is a golden ipsi or gipsi or reference ipsi... call it what you will but this has a licence tied to and needs to be considered , you can administer this board from the shell of cm or through the services port.

Medpro this board provides speech path and tones etc this is administered from the sat interface.

Clan, This board allows registration of IP endpoints ... you can also use the procr of cm so this board is not critical.

So you have a port network with 2 cabinets A & B , each port network requires an IPSI that's how I know.

Can you elaborate on the golden IPSI. I've heard about this before, but don't really understand what it actually means. I'm in a CM6.x environment.

I don't want to connect them together, just use one of them to hook up some analogue phones to our system.
So I will not be using a TDM connection....

wptelli , in a CM6.x environment you dont need to worry in pre 6 the licence was tied to the serial number of the Reference ipsi (gipsi)

Great, thanks for that. What happens if you had to replace that golden IPSI in the event it died or whatever? It's not a simple RMA/and re-IP?

You would have to regen a new license file tied to the replacement ipsi serial on the RFA website (old plds type site)

wpitelli, you said you are in a CM6.x environment. The IPSI would be a simple swap/replace of the board and then just reprogramming its IP address to whatever the old one was. Nothing in your licensing will matter in this case.

Users on CM5.2.x and lower will need to regenerate the license file if the golden IPSI fails. The golden IPSI is a nickname for the IPSI who's serial number you've attached to your license file. Using Avaya RFA the license file can be regenerated, but this usually means asking your BP for help.

OK, thanks for all your comments - but how about when the G650 isn't registered to CM ?
Do I just 'add cab' ?

And what else ?

Sekitori

add cab and add ipsi
That should get the port network online. If you are simply reIPing an office though then you just need to Re IP the IPSI (in person) and then update CM with the new addresses. You will also then need to change the ip addresses of the attached boards. This is done with "change ip-interface 1A02

Thanks Randy,

but if I just need the G650 to be an analogue gateway I won't need the IPSI, right ?
I only change IP-addresses of the board(s) and ch nodenames-ip in the CM ?

sekitori

No ,

you need the ipsi so the cabinet talks to the cm so the analogue cards can be seen , you will need to physically walk up to the board and plug into the services port and configure.

Ok, so I change the IPaddress of the IPSI on the services port...

That probably has a specific address itself.
I'm not sure I can do this, there might be a password on it.

Think I'll give it a try but will probably end up contacting techsupport at our SP's...

Thanks montyzummer - that link is great.

I have enough confidence now to try it myself [shadeshappy]
