Is there anyway to check the processor speed of several remote win98 pc's ??

We need to dispose of all MMX and P2 we have on windows 98
but i cannot get to them locally, i need to check them out remotely somehow.

thanks for any info.

Hi,
This seems to be a bizarre question.

What you need to do is to consult the inventory of your machines.

If you haven't got one, someone isn't doing (or hasn't done) their job properly.

All the best.

long story, no they havent, they are "GONE" now
and we need this done asap, and several are in remote sites
so we would like to do remotely from 1 location.
So basicaly an inventory of win98 machines but only for the processor speed.

thanks

Cant you ask the user of the remote PC to shutdown / restart and then keep pressing the pause/break key until the cpu speed is displayed? Tez

Backups are great but checking if you can restore is more fun.

Isn't there anyone on-site where the 98 pc's are located?

All you have to do is have someone go to Start->Run, type dxdiag and hit OK. It will give you the processor speed along with other specs. No need to restart the pc each time...

It's too late now, but in the future...

When setting up a computer for networking, you put in a computer name & an optional desciption. I put a blurb about the system in the description like 'HP Brio 466 PII'. This way you can see a brief description when viewing the computers in network.

can you run Dxdiag remotely then ? i need to get this info without user intervention and
were upgrading all soon

thanks guys

any remote control software programs to get this info from the pc ??

anyone know if the intel frequency id
can be run remotely ??

There may be some free ones available at or
However, any remote software that lets you see the user's desktop and control it will work. The ones I mentioned before are good examples.

One thing I forgot to mention is that most "remote desktop" software requires installation on both the host and the remote pc. So, if that's not an option for you, then that's probably not the answer you were looking for.
