long story, no they havent, they are "GONE" now
and we need this done asap, and several are in remote sites
so we would like to do remotely from 1 location.
So basicaly an inventory of win98 machines but only for the processor speed.
Isn't there anyone on-site where the 98 pc's are located?
All you have to do is have someone go to Start->Run, type dxdiag and hit OK. It will give you the processor speed along with other specs. No need to restart the pc each time...

When setting up a computer for networking, you put in a computer name & an optional desciption. I put a blurb about the system in the description like 'HP Brio 466 PII'. This way you can see a brief description when viewing the computers in network.
One thing I forgot to mention is that most "remote desktop" software requires installation on both the host and the remote pc. So, if that's not an option for you, then that's probably not the answer you were looking for.
