I recently upgraded to WinXP PRO and while happy with the new OS was thinking I needed more horsepower in the form of Memory and CPU speed. I have an Compaq AP400 (P3/450MHz 128MB) and found great prices for 512Mb memory and an upgrade to P3/700MHz.
I got to thinking that since the AP400 is dual processor capable I should take advantage and put the new P3/700 as the 2nd processor. (Intel recommends that the processor with the lowest feature-set be the Bootstrap Processor).
My questions are:
1. Does this sound like a good idea to you?
2. Are there any gotchas (e.g. HAL issues)
3. Will I get any bang for these bucks if I use dual processors?
4. Can I even use 2 processors of different speeds in the same machine?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Can't - your processors must be identical.

Thanks, I suspected as much. Do you have any experience with dual processors. I got the P3/700 for only $135 and could buy another (I love messing with this stuff thats why my handle is rjKRASH LOL ) but was really wondering if it would be worth it.

yes, you have to have the same type of processor when going to dual processors. If you really want more speed you would get it by upgrading to a p3 700mhz, and definitely by going to duals. Also upgrading that ram will make a big difference as well, but when your main focus is speed then you want to think about the speed of you ram or cache.
