I need to change which extension rings when our companies main number is called. I'm not too experience with telephony programming so if anyone would mind filling me in on how to reroute the main number on a Norstar system I would really appreciate it. It currently rings on 1 extension and since we've added a new person to handle calls, I need to change the main numbers routing to her extension. Any help please?

Thank you

You need to go into Line Access and Line Assignment and unassign the lines from one phone and assign them to the new extension.

Or if the existing phone can still ring just call forward to the new phone.

Thanks bubbaaa, I'll give that a try.

Let me know if it works and if I can be of anymore help.

Hey bubbaaa, how can i change it so that when i pick up the handset and dial 0 it calls ext 300 rather than ext 221?

Thanks again

How do I redefine the internal direct dial? I'm not a telephony expert. I'm a software engineer and am only trying to help out with some of the phone problems where I work because it is a small company and our major network and telecom support is outsourced. I mainly handle doing punch downs for cross connecting, moving the phones and adding new VM for new employees, etc. I'm not a telephony programmer but a software programmer so I don't know how to do what you have said to do. Any help is appreciated.

thank you,

Nathan

Sorry Nathan, been spread kinda thin lately and been havin' plenty of pc trouble to boot.

Usually when people classify themselves as a programmer in this forum, we assume they mean Norstar programmer/tech.

The answer to your last question is that it's in system programming under direct dial but if you're not already familiar with programming your Norstar or if you don't have the system coordinator password, you should probably have a Norstar tech on the case just to make sure that changing the system operator isn't going to have any negative effects elsewhere in the system.

Hi Phonehed,

When I registered at tek-tips I selected programmer because I had originally made posts to a forum for software dev...I write in c# currently so no I'm definitely not a phone system programmer. I have a little knowledge of phone systems and I do have the password to get in. I'll poke around and see what I can do.

Thank you for your response, I appreciate the help. Oh yeah and for your pc troubles, I understand that too. I also have to do a little pc support around the office as well even though my job is 'software engineer' I end up doing all sorts of things.

thanks again,

Nathan

Thanks Phonehed, I finally got around to fixing our internal direct dial problem. Now when you pick up the handset and dial 0 it rings the correct extension.

Thanks again for your assistance.
