Want to save Excel file as text file. Since there are
double quotes ,comma and space in the original excel file.
and all needs to be kept as its original format. so it doesn't work save as csv or Text(tab delimited) or Formatted text(space delimited).
Is there any other way that excel file can be convert or saved as txt file, in the meantime, keep all the data not be changed, it means not have more double quote because there is comma or double quote in file.
or is it possible to select any other character as delimiter when save excel file as text file?

Any idea would be very appreciated. Thanks a lot

Flora

What version of Excel? In 2003 I was able to save as a msdos text file and it worked. Lost some of the formatting but the spaces and quotes remained.

Hi Flora,

If you save the file in Formatted text(space delimited) *.prn format, that will give you a fixed-width formatted text file with only the original characters, plus spaces for padding - no extra quotes, commas or tabs.

If neither that nor the other formats are suitable, you might have to use one of them (eg tab-deleimited) and edit out the extra quote characters this creates - very easy to do in Word. Alternatively, you could write a macro to output the file exactly as you want it.

Cheers
