I do think it should be better to start with VB 6. I think that level of programming is very good to start with and a very good ground to stand on later.
On the other hand: the .net works quite differently. You have to "re-think" again if you want to learn that later. Though you use the basics from VB6 when you do it.
So my advice (after teaching programming for 6 years: C and C++) is that you start with VB 6. But you can choose to start with .net if you want to. The challenge is then at least a step higher.
VB6 is a good toy but it is fast becoming out dated. Since you are just starting it would probably be more useful in the long run for you to go with .NET.
