Hello,

I'm a beginner who would like to learn some visual basic. Do I study VB 6 or do I jump into .Net?

Thanks for any advise.

I do think it should be better to start with VB 6. I think that level of programming is very good to start with and a very good ground to stand on later.

On the other hand: the .net works quite differently. You have to "re-think" again if you want to learn that later. Though you use the basics from VB6 when you do it.

So my advice (after teaching programming for 6 years: C and C++) is that you start with VB 6. But you can choose to start with .net if you want to. The challenge is then at least a step higher.

VB6 is a good toy but it is fast becoming out dated. Since you are just starting it would probably be more useful in the long run for you to go with .NET.

I'm with Thrakzonk

VB6 is a sheltered workshop compared to .Net. If you are looking forward to a career in programming then I'd start with .net.
