I have a win2k computer that i'm trying to put on my 60+ computer network, but it's not seeing the network. I can ping any computer on the network and get responses. I can do a loopback ping and it works. I have the TCP/IP set and working same as the rest of the building, as well as netBUI, but i still cant see the network. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

You may want to check the advanced setting for the NIC card. Scroll down to the Link Speed and Duplex setting and change from the Auoo Detect to the speed of your network. I had a similiar problem and this worked.

Okay, i've done it all.... File and print sharing were on; NetBios was enabled, and when i type \\servername, i get nothing.
Here is some more info as to what is happening:
When I ping now, i only get partial completion if any.. like it's forgetting where it's going..

When i go into the network places; it freezes. Or when i am in explorer and do the same thing... when i try to see whos on the network, it freezes. grrrrr

Still stuck in the mud,
Dave

Could something in the OS be corrupt?

If you haven't done it already, try re-installing TCP/IP. It could be a corrupt stack. You definitely have the latest drivers, right?

The tcp/ip stuff thats on there came with the win2k install. What can i replace? and from where?

For starters, all you should need for basic connectivity thru your NIC is Client for Microsoft Networks, File and Print Sharing, and TCP/IP (jot down your settings if you need to). If you go to the properties of your NIC, you can uninstall all of these things, then go into Device Manager and uninstall your NIC (you have the latest drivers, right?). Then reboot, W2K will see the NIC, you provide the drivers, then re-install those 3 components I mentioned before.

You said you had lmhosts lookup table enabled. Hosts and lmhosts files are actual txt files in winnt/system32/drivers/etc. These will help enable name resolution. Glen A. Johnson
