Hello everyone
I´m running nw6 with zfd3.2 and I was wondering how I can get the group policies for windows xp to work in the workstations package for workstations ? When check the "Windows Group Policy" it want me to locate the group policy file but I don´t have one. Do I have to make one from scratch or can I download them somewhere ?

You will need to create a directory (named such as group policy) on a volume. Then create a policy that will be saved there. When you selct edit or new policy it will be saved to that directory.

But there are no policies to edit, do I have to make them from scratch in notepad or what ?

when you have completed the new directory name goto the browse button and goto to the folder that you created and select open.
Then select edit.
This should open a new session to edit and save at the location that was created earlier.

another option is goto the run menu in the windows start menu.
enter mmc in the run menu. This will bring up the console.
Select file, then add snapin, select add, chose group policy,
select add and finish, select ok, this will have the snapins available to edit your group policy.

Then save as to your directory created earlier.

This is close but not detailed you will need naming convention you want to select for your use or use the default.

Hope this helps enough to get you going.
I also create a desktop bmp for depts. to go with these policies so when I am roaming the depts I can tell from there desktop if the correct departmental policies are loaded.

When I said browse button I should of said after you are at the policy module where you are building a new policy.

Hello Dasectec
worked like a charm, thanks so much !
Only one problem, I can´t seem to get the zenworks to push the group policies to work on a computer. I made a test with a group policiy where I removed the RUN option from the start menu but that didn´t take effect on the computers´in the same container as the workstation package, any ideas on how to make it work ?

/Dan

Does the test user have assocation to the policy. This would be in the policy properties page.

But it´s a Workstation Package, I can only associate that with a workstation or a container, or ?

Anyway, I have tried associating it with workstation and container and it still doesn´t work. I have added two simple things in the policy to see if it works: Remove "run" from start menu, and remove "my pictures" from start menu, but none of them seem to take effect.

I don´t have to execute nal.exe in the login script or anything like that on the workstation to make it run the package, do I ?
