Ok, here's the situation (oh, and I'm relatively new to all of this)... We currently have DID's in the 412-256-3000 to 3299 range. I won't go into details on why, but we are changing our DIDs to the 724-459-4000 to 4299 range. We are using a Definity G3 (v11) PBX with an Octel Aria 250 (latest rev) voicemail system. Because we will be able to receive calls on both the old and new DIDs for a month, I would like to do the following when someone (outside) dials one of the old numbers:

1. Go straight to a generic mailbox (or message) that indicates our site's numbers have changed and explain the difference (ex: old extension was 3182, new extension is 4182).

2. After message is played, automatically transfer to the new number (and then to the associated mailbox if no answer).

I know that we can do probably do this if we setup a second mailbox for each station, but I was hoping that I could handle it primarily in the Definity. I will have stations setup for both old and new numbers. Is there anyway to do this without too much effort on the Octel side?

Thanks!!!

Change the incoming destination on the DID PRI. Anything that matches 30xx, 31xx, 32xx, replace with 40xx, 41xx, 42xx.

This is of course considering the extensions match.

Example: John Smith's old extension was 3145 and his new extension is 4145...

Would that work?

This wouldn't give an announcement but would route the call to the right extension...

Thanks,
CJH

You're right. That should work (yes, the extensions will match, thankfully!). In fact, that would probably be the easiest solution to implement. Although, I was hoping to have a message played for the caller (leaving it up to the end user to tell every caller might be asking too much).

Another thought was to dump all 3xxx calls to a single voicemail that would allow the caller to dial the new extension. This would ensure that a message is played but it leaves it up to the caller to understand the change and dial the correct extension.

Now, if I could somehow find something that gives me the best of both worlds, we'd be golden. If I can't get my perfect solution, I will probably go with yours. Thanks for the info!
