We just downloaded another shareware program from called the VALBackup. This program is supposed to ftp into all of your VAL boards, download the announcements and zip them up as a backup.

Here is my problem!
How do I setup my VAL board so that I can FTP into it? The program I downloaded keeps failing so I am now trying this manually! I have the IP address, but when I put in my user name and password it fails!

Hope someone can help, we have 4 VAL boards and I would really like to set something like this up!

Thanks
Barry

Why don't you use the VAL manager? Plan your work............Work your plan

We use the VAL manager, but to back everything up we need to log onto every site, download the announcements to disk and then zip them up. Supposedly with this software you can just schedule it, and it will do all of this for you.

Also, just a question for you, when you log into the VAL manager is it really slow? I think it must log into your PBX, get all of the IP's for your VAL board and then ftp into your VAL boards!

Thanks
Barry

Preparing the VAL circuit pack for the FTP session
To prepare the VAL circuit pack for the FTP session, including setting the username and password:
1. At the SAT, type
enable filesystem board board-location login ftp-username [3-6 characters] ftp-password [4-11 characters] and press RETURN.
For example, the command:
enable filesystem board 01A11 login romeo shakespeare
where romeo shakespeare is the login and password. Can be any login name and password. This is an example)

enables an FTP session into the VAL circuit pack in Cabinet 1, carrier A, slot 11. The ftp-username (3-6 characters) for this session is romeo, and the ftp-password (4-11 characters) is shakespeare.

When the FTP session on the circuit pack is enabled, the announcement and firmware files are available to anyone who knows the VAL circuit pack’s IP address, the ftp-username, and the ftp-password.

We recommend using a unique ftp-login and ftp-password for each FTP session.

Happy Networking!!!!

Perfect! I can now manually ftp into my sites. Now to see how this software works out!

One more thing: I checked through the VAL manager help file but couldn't find this! Which Avaya doc number did you find it under?
