Note: I am NOT looking for the second edition shutdown supplement here.

This article indicates that Microsoft prepared a win98 fix for shutdown problems due to a large number of mapped drives.

I found this while trying to see if there were some kind of batch file commands I could use to "unmap" mapped drives, but I dont know how to compose a google search to see if someone might have put it on a web page somewhere. Is anyone aware of a site where I might download this or do I just have to see if I can still get it from Microsoft.

Thanks.

Are your registry and data backed up?

Might be simpler than what you're looking for, but the net use command does have a switch to disconnect from a mapped drive, and I believe you can use a wildcard (*) to disconnect all at once:

net use * /delete

Will that one work for you?

Thanks.

That's too easy! Network stuff is supposed to be really hard and complicated. Im a member of a group that's given 7 mapped drives on login-I think that's part of my shutdown issue. I only need access to 3 of the drives on a regular basis and I was thinking about a batch file to run after I logged in which eliminated the other 4. I just tried your command in a dos window-worked fine-putting that in a batch file to run just before I shut down looks like it would fix my issue.

Not sure now whether to try the fix or leave the operating system alone and use the batch file, but that was what I was looking for and it downloaded fine.

Update:
Ive been using net use command (with the * /d) when I remember--on nights I've remembered to use it, shutdown has then worked without any problems.
Really appreciate the tip.
