Hi,

I have a Chrismas dinner menu in excel with over 100 menu choices on it and I want to total each menu choice.

ie The excel sheet looks like the following:

Turkey
Beef (well done)
Beef (rare)
duck
Turkey
Beef (rare)

I want a total at the bottom to say:

Turkey 2
Beef (well done) 1
Beef (rare) 2
duck 1

Any ideas how I'd do this? I've tried filters but can't find a better way?

Thanks for any help,
Jonny

have a look at COUNTIF
that should do exactly what you want.

Another option is a pivot table with 'count' aggregation formula.

combo

Another way - sort by choice then subtotal and count on the description
