Excel Negative Number Format 1

I would like to know if there is anyway that you can set the default settings for Excel (or in the Control Panel, Regional and Language Options) to display negative numbers for all new worksheets as (999,999,999.00)

Use the following in a custome format for the cells and you will get -ve nubers displayes as you require.


#,##0.00_);[Red]( #,##0.00)

If you want dhulberts format to be the default in all new sheets, you might want to set up a sheet template with the Normal style having that number format.

I wouldn't recommend the use of the complete overriding of the negative nubering, beause it can make life confusing for suport people. But I would make a new template.

Open a blank Workbook.
In [Format]..[Style]..keep style name as normal
click [Modify]..tab [Number]..Select [Custom]
click in the type text box enter #,##0.00;"999,999,999.00"
including the quotemarks.

[OK]..[Add]..[OK]

[File]..[Save As]..
The directory shown should be the templates directory, create a name for instance neg999.xlt
ensure the name is followed by xlt as this is the extension for a template.

Close the template file.

[File]..[New]..select neg999.xlt

The outcome is for the template to now be names book1 or whatever.
