Excel crash - can you reproduce it?

I am using Excel 2003 SP3. I have a 10 line spreadsheet:

A1 10
A2 10
A3 10
A4 10
A5 10
A6
A7
A8
A9 =A10-SUM(A1:A5)
A10 0

The A1 thru A10 are just cell refs. The only data is the 10, 10, etc. Cell A9 is -50 as you would expect.

If I select A9 and press Backspace, cell A9 is cleared and cells A1:A5 have a green box around them. If I click on the bottom right of that green box and pull it down, it only pulls down to A6 and then Excel hangs.

I have typed this formula into a copy of Excel SP2 on another computer and get the same result.

I can see from TaskMgr that Excel is using around 99% of CPU time.

I'd be interested to know if anyoen else can reproduce this.

I've seen some things on Dumb & Dumber that I would not want to do either.

Is there a reason why are you doing this?

Hi Skip, great to see you're still doing well. ;-)

I can't see a Business Case, either; however, it's "kinda neat" to know of this.

Now I'll know NOT to do something "dumb" like... bet against someone who claims they can [COLOR=red yellow]consistently crash Excel with ONLY 4 keystrokes and a click-of-the-mouse[/color].

I suppose that I'm not the hacker type, that TRIES to crash or break everything.

In that vein, I guess I'm not a great tester, although, I can be testy at times. ;-)

I can reproduce it but I'm with Skip - there is no reason to do what you have described so it shouldn't really be an issue...
