We still have a couple of computers here in our offices that are running Office 97 and I'm running into a problem. Well, more of an annoyance. Starting with the Office 97 release, Microsoft put in the ability to save the file with a read-only recommendation - Dual Format. Well, we have a computer that the default is to save in this format which we don't want.

Is there a way to turn this off as the default? I didn't see any options to do this and am going to check the registry next, but thought I'd ask here first.

thanks.

A new workbook is created using built in program settings UNLESS the user has a Book.xlt template stored in the xlstart folder or "alternate startup location".

I wonder if the rogue computer has a Book.xlt with read-only recommendation set....

Hope this helps

Gavin

Good luck.
