I have copied an old file in excel renamed it and removed the links that I had. The annoying problem is that every time I open the file I get asked about updating the links ,which I am sure I have removed. How do I get rid of this irritating message. Any Ideas anyone?

Check your macros. A lot of times, there are calls to worksheets in the macro itself that needs to be updated. (I forget about this all the time too.)

Also check the range names (if there are any) - references to old files can lurk there and cause the update links message.
also, to be sure that you have removed the links, you could run a find on all sheets for ".xls" - IME even when you think you have deleted all links, there's always one (on a hidden sheet usually) that gets missed Rgds

ianglynn,

I tend to use:-

Application.AskToUpdateLinks = False

in the workbook_open event for any spreadsheets that have links in, and may be of use inyour case.
