I have Worksheet_A that contains the following data:

Item Price Qty Category Subtotal
ball 3 1 equipment 3
bat 5 2 equipment 10
glove 2 1 apparrel 2
lesson 1 50 services 50
hat 1 10 apparrel 10

In Worksheet_B I want to automagically group those items to arrive at

QTY ITEM AMOUNT
APPARREL <- the grouped category
1 glove 2
1 hat 10

EQUIPMENT <- the grouped category
1 ball 3
2 bat 10

Which technique should I be considering??? I tried to make a pivot table for this, but it wanted to do all sorts of sums. This is more of a database generated reporting operation.

Thanks!

If you use a pivot table, you have to double click on the field name you import in the report. This will allow you to choose " Count" instead of sum.
You can then group anything you like in the pivot table by selecting the fields you want, right clicking on the table go to Group.
TYou can even create a name for the groups.
Double click on " GroupXX" and replace by any name you like

BTW,

1. You do not have to put this on another sheet (In fact, you can't) -- you just apply or remove it whenever you want.

2. The data must FIRST be sorted by CATEGORY Skip,
