Hello everybody,

I am having problems with my Excel 2000. For example, when I open any spreadsheet document I have worked on, it would have an error stating "Can't find files" or something like that in bold red.

When I open excel by itself, it works fine. The way I get around this is I open excel and from there I click File > Open and I look for the excel spreadsheet and it works fine.

Can anybody help me find a solution so I can get rid of the error message.

Thanks....

It sounds like your shortcuts are pointing to a file that has been moved or deleted. The easiest way to cure is to just recreate the shortcuts.

Sawedoff,

Thanks for the reply, but that was not the problem. The shortcuts are fine, but what happens is that ALL of the excel documents do that; irregardless, of where the files are.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!

That isn't a very good description of the symptom.

Tell us what the error is, and please don't say "or something like that".

Lilliabeth, sorry about that:

The error message says this:

Cannot find the file 'location of the file' (or one of it's components. Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available.

I tried registering it through a search I did on google, but no luck.

Any suggestions would be appreciated...

This is how I register it through, forgot to mention:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /Regserver

Still no luck...

Lilliabeth,

Thanks for your suggestion. I fixed it already. Yup, you're supposed to unregister and re-register the problem. Afterwards, from Tools > Options > General Tab > de-select the 'ignore other applications' = working fine now...

Thanks!!!
