Hi Guys,

Can't find anything on this on Google / Technet / KB etc.

Last night installed MSDE 2000 on our branch server. Domain Controller, Fileserver and DHCP / DNS server.
Install went fine, but was late at night and after I saw the server reboot I left.

I've come in this morning, and all of the clients can logon without any problems and access the network and files - however; I cannot logon locally to the server, nor will my account with admin rights work or the network admin account. I get a "The Security ID Structure is invalid" error message when I try to logon to the server, and when I try to perform any networking opertaion from my workstation.

Anyone have any ideas what this is about? I'm thinking security descriptors but to run a check I would need to somehow get the server to do a chkdsk /f and restart - but i can't logon to the bloody thing! :)

Cheers,

Steve.

Thanks. I'm still doing some digging on what the error actually means - although after a google search (of: "The Security ID Structure is Invalid" Windows 2003) returns 97 results it's not looking promising! :)

Cheers,

1337 The security ID structure is invalid. ERROR_INVALID_SID"

"...system error codes. The values are defined in the Winnt.h header file. They are returned by the GetLastError function when many functions fail. To retrieve the description text for the error in your application, use the FormatMessage function with the FORMAT_MESSAGE_FROM_SYSTEM flag."

extract from System Error codes.

Steve,

Can you connect via the network, on Manage Computer?
If so, can you see anything in the logs?
Can you connect to AD with the mmc console on another pc?

FYI: (and future ref), there's sod all about this error on the web other than it may relate to Event ID 1337 in regards to incorrect SID's.

However - all of the users are happily working away - it seems to be anyone with admin rights gets the error. (Resolution / Rise of the machines?)

As the users (call centre) are working away with access to the network I'll restart it tomorrow AM at 8:00 and suck it and see. I'll post the results back.

Cheers,

Steve.

Thanks Aftertaf,

Anyone with admin access cannot access anything on the server at all. Either a logon through TS / or locally - MMC connections, can't even map drives.

However the users can! :)

Can't see the event logs or anything.

Any ideas appreciated.

Cheers,

Steve.

...MSDE 2000...

AAAAHHHHHHH!

Now your scaring me! :)

Nobody in the IT Dept can logon to the bloody server. Will give it a go tomorrow. Restart, followed by LKGC, then recovery console chkdsk /f. Failing that a setup-repair.

Otherwise i'm sort of shafted!

Cheers,

Steve.

sort of shafted!

hmmm.....

setup a new DC and replicate the domain...
see if it makes matters better/worse.

Thanks for the suggestion. We've tried forcing replication from the other DC's and it just fails saying that the RPC is busy!
Can't really do a huge amount until tomorrow AM. Just reading up on the BOFH stories until then! :)

Cheers,

Steve.
