I was talking to my SBC sales rep about getting a PtP T1 to connect to a new branch for data and VoIP for Norstar using MCK Extenders. He told me that the Norstars were no longer in production (as of Dec. 2004) and I should switch to a BCM instead.

Is he full of it?

The Nortel website still has plenty of info on the Norstar and speaks nothing about it being no longer in production. I could find nothing about BCM in the product list.

My current "vendor" is a tech guy who just fixes what's broken or what I'd like modified, so I tend to get refurbished parts when needed anyhow...

He is full of it.

Norstar continues to evolve.

Thanks MarvO.

I meet with another sales rep from SBC and he pitched the BCM as well, but he admitted that the other sales rep was wrong.

That could be the goofiest thing I've heard in a long time. It's the BCM push, nothing more. Nortel would completely be sunk without the Norstar

SBC is pumping the BCM hardcore. I had a customer call me the other day that was looking to put in a PRI to reduce the cost on their billing.

SBC told them they'd have to let them put in a BCM or they (SBC) wouldn't support it. Of course, what they're doing is trying to take advantage of an unknowledgeable customer, because of course they won't support the existing switch because they didn't put it in. LOL.

Only 8X24's are no longer in production but then they can't handle T1's either.
