I'm in the middle of a changeover from an AT&T system to a Norstar. (I am subcontracting, and didn't order the hardware, fyi) They have 6 analog lines for DID's .. and turns out another 6 GROUND START lines. (So Basically, I don't get a dial tone until It gets grounded)

How in the world do you set that up on the norstar ?! I've always known OF ground start lines, but never actually met someone that was using them.

What do I do ?? Anything will help at this point, not sure what to do.

Thanks .. !!

YOU NEED TO ORDER THE TRUNKS LOOP START IF THEY ARE COPPER, IF THEY ARE T1 THEY WILL WORK GRD START

OLD ROLMEN WORKING ON NORTELS

Thanks Perrypj, I just found that out. That really sucks.

Considering the new system is up in a new room with all the new cabling. ..

And considering this rather large company needs to operate monday morning.

This is my temporary solution :

I'm gonna take 6 analog ports from the AT&T they used to have to the new telephone / server room, and stick them in the line in of my Norstar. This way the AT&T (a Legend I believe) will do the "ground start thingy" (TM) for me.

Then I'll get on the phone and make the telco change it over to loop start. (Don't know how far i'll get on a saturday though)

Thanks again !

This is called being thrown to the wolves. It is good for your soul(karma points). I hope your provider will get the lines converted to loop start quickly.

I feel your pain. Years ago, I had the same situation.
I spent a couple of hours in the phone closet with an M7324 set with all lines assign so that I could watch the pool usage. I had a ground wire in one hand tapping the next available line until telco got them converted over to loop start. I plan to never go through that again. I was sweating bullits, but learned my lesson.

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH !!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe this. So my idea worked .. I hooked up the ground start lines back into the at&t, and sent the analog extensions from the at&t into the norstar for my lines.

So I was feeling good ...

Then I go to show the customer everything is working, and it turns out ALL INBOUND DID CALLS are not working anymore. (Which is what I got working friday before leaving the customer) .... WTF ?!?!!?

All inbound DID calls are now ringing on the outbound ground start line. (Well one in particular, then jumps to another if it's busy)

Just for the hell Of it, I put it all back how it was friday before I left, and still, you call one of the DID numbers and it rings STRAIGHT to one of the outbound lines. (nothing else connected to the line, except my testset at the telco UG)

The only thing I can think of is that something changed at the TELCO .. My DID lines in the phone system are working properly if I dial the 3 digits with my testset .. the calls just aren't coming in on the DID circuits for some reason.

Please tell me i'm not crazy, and it's just the WORST TIMING in the world for telco to screw this up ?

I Spent lotsa time on the phone with telco .. but they're re-selling someone else's lines and blah blah blah .. so they're gonna get back to me within 4 hours ..

IT HAS TO WORK MONDAY MORNING !!
AAAAAARRRGGGHHHH !!!
WORST WEEKEND EVER !!!

Thanks for letting me vent here .. I feel a little better.. :)

Guess I should follow up now .. it's almost midnight. Finally finished with the two telcos until someone finally said "oh yeah, the channels have been locked and are overflowing to the outbound lines. I unlocked it. Try Now"

I hate them
I hate them so much

The m7324, grounding with crossconnect is a classic. You get my nomination for Telecom Hall of Fame for that one.

Thanks for the flowers atcphone, but maybe it should be "Hall of Shame" instead. It will never happen to me again, and I shared it here to perhaps keep it happening to any of my good friends here on this great forum.

I keep a Ground to Loop Start Converter just for this. I can convert 6 lines; I think it's been a while since I've had to use it. I use this until the Telco can make the necessary changes. But I do give credit to marvo because I wouldn't of thought of that.
