Group,

We are having problems getting this environment to work. We have an EMC Celerra direct fibre attached to a ATL M1500 and use Netbackup 5.1 ES for NDMP. Set_ndmp_attr works fine. Both tape drives can be seen from the Celerra and can be manipulated (fast forward, rewind). However, when we inititate a backup from the policy from the media manager or master server (NDMP client), the bptm log shows that the process is hanging at "mount_open_media: setting NDMP_TAPE_MOUNT". The GUI just shows the policy is mounting the tape with a given media id. The policy will just sit there forever if we dont kill it or sometimes will freeze the tape and mount a new one only to be caught in a never-ending loop. Does anyone know how to resolve this? Its like Netbackup sends a request to the library to mount a tape, the libary mounts it, but never tells netbackup it is mounted so Netbackup still thinks it is in the process of being mounted. Meanwhile, the Celerra knows its mounted b/c it can fast-forward, rewind, etc. the tape in the drive. Please help - thanks in advance

Is the tape write-protected?

I had a similar problem. Double check the drive paths and robot numbers of the NDMP drives in your library in Netbackup. You may have the Robot Drive Number pointing to the wrong drive path in the datamover. Might be that Netbackup is mounting the correct tape in a drive but the datamover is waiting for a response from the OTHER drive.
