I am working on my daughters T2792 emachine. She told me her PSU burned up and her hubby changed it with a substitute unit. It has a power switch on the back, original does not have switch and since he replaced PSU it would no longer go into standby and when performing a normal shut down the power up button flashes and HD clicks until you shut off the PSU power switch. Thinking that the PSU was not comaptable I replaced with a Bestec made for emachine replacement PSU and it will now go into standby but it still flashes and clicks on shut down. I instructed my daughter to use standby mode and if leaving for extended period perform normal shutdown and unplug to stop clicking. Other wise there is no indication that this computer has any other problem. I also installed a 512 memory card to her existing 256. With XP-SP2 and Nortons it ran really slooooow. Added Memory made it better. I find it odd that mother board could cause this shut down problem such as this and still run programs okay. I have read many other emachines are having similar or same problem. I have found that almost every case involved a burned up PSU prior to the onset of this or in conjuction with. Has any one discovered a cure for this yet or actually fixed it with a mobo replacement?
