I have configured Dynamic DNS on an 831 router. It works fine as in it updates the IP address with the Dynamic DNS provider.
My problem is that it notifies too much. I have the following set:-
interval maximum 28 0 0 0
My Dynamic DNS service provider ( ) only allows you to update the DNS record if it has changed ( or you can do a forced update once every 28 days ). If you update too often with the same IP address it blocks the account. This is exactly what is happening.
On testing, it seems that if you do a 'Reload' of the router, the router notifies the IP address just before it reboots and after it has started again so 2 notifications in about 5 minutes. Also, it notifies when the DHCP from my ISP has expired even if the IP address re-assigned is the same as before it expired.
My ISP lease expires every 8 hours and most of the time I get re-assigned the same IP address but the Cisco still notifies Dynamic DNS with exactly the same IP address. After a couple of times, my Dynamic DNS service provider locks out my account for abuse.
There doesn't seem to be any way of stopping this on a Cisco router.
Any sugegstions?
