I just bought a new DVD/CD burner that supports both +/- R and RW for DVD and CD, as well as DVD RAM. I have copied a CD onto my hard drive using this drive, as well I have formatted a DVD-RAM disc and copied information onto it. My problem is that when I insert a blank DVD-RW into the writer, it won't recognize it, the computer just goes into hourglass mode and then about 30 seconds later a message comes up telling me to insert a CD into the drive. The weird thing is that the volume label under my computer comes up as DVD-RAM Drive (G:) normally, but when I insert the DVD-RW into the drive, the little DVD-RW logo comes up for the picture (instead of the hard disk picture they have), and the volume label changes to CD Drive, so it like its expecting to see a CD or something and thats why its not reading it right, because I have a DVD in the drive. I've tried looking how to make it read DVDs under properties of the drive but I couldn't find anything. Somebody please help me!!!!!

I had a similal problem with XP seeing my pioneer a106 as a CD drive.
Of to M$ Windows update and installed all the latest drivers.
Drive now burns faultlessly.

So your saying you just ran windows update and locate the latest drivers from there and downloaded them and everything worked fine. Sounds kind of easy to me but I will do that now and let you know how I make out. Thanks.
